New York is THE city of skyscrapers. There are almost 6,500 buildings and it's not about to stop. If buildings "grow" in height, this phenomenon is due to the cost of land and its scarcity. New York (Manhattan) can in fact only develop vertically. Along with Chicago, New York and more precisely the borough of Manhattan is the cradle of the first American skyscrapers. The city went through a phase of intense construction at the beginning of the 20th century, which ended in the 1930s. Nowadays, New York City is the scene of a new wave of construction. The current trend is towards the diversity of forms and the break with the parallelepipedism of constructions of international style.
