Fairmont Mayakoba, the expert opinion

Fairmont Mayakoba hotel review
The Fairmont Mayakoba is an eco-friendly offering from the Fairmont luxury hotel brand. Situated just north of Playa del Carmen, it offers luxury accommodation while keeping 80% of the surrounding mangroves and eco-system intact. The resort is made up of four hotel properties situated amongst lagoons, jungle and mangroves, and the hotel's vastness is clear from the minute you arrive. The casitas and beach are a reasonable distance from the main hotel entrance, but the Fairmont doesn't skimp on luxury, and there are plenty of golf carts and bikes available for guests to make their way around the paths that traverse the mangroves.

What are the rooms, suites and residencies like ?

The four hundred and one rooms at the Fairmont Mayakoba are set back from the sea and nestled among tropical forests and the lagoons' calm waterways. The hotel offers guest rooms, suites and residences.
The Fairmont Room offers, 1 King bed or two queen beds and has a garden view.
The Fairmont View Room offers, 1 King bed or two queen beds and has views of the resort. These rooms are closest to the main entrance building.

All rooms come with a spa-style marble bathroom complete with a soaker tub and separate glass shower. Large balconies are included in all rooms, and large floor to ceiling windows help bring the outdoors inside.

Suites take the accommodation to another level and offer guests all of the same facilities as the rooms.
Also included with all suites are a private pool, butler service, separate living and sleeping areas and wraparound balconies with large light windows. There is a second bathroom off the living room, which includes an additional shower. Beachfront suites also benefit from a private infinity pool with an ocean view.

Residencies at the Fairmont Mayakoba are, as the name suggests, a luxury home away from home. The three and four-bedroom luxury accommodation comes with a large private pool, dining and kitchen facilities, as well as living and sleeping areas. There is a large outdoor private area, a 24-hour concierge service, an in house butler, chauffeur and car and access to all sports facilities, swimming pools, shopping services and spa discounts.

What services are offered by Fairmont Mayakoba ?

The facilities at the Mayakoba are second to none. We don't think We've visited another resort with so much on offer. It's hard to know where to start.

Natural eco-system

The resort's big boast has to be its proximity to nature and its situation within the mangroves and lagoons. The paths that connect the resort traverse the waterways, and it's not uncommon to see a crocodile. At breakfast, we got to meet the hotel's resident hawk that is on hand to make sure the cheeky local birds don't become a pest.
Monkey's turtles and giant iguana's are all residents at the Fairmont, and I am counting them as part of the facilities. They are a big draw for this hotel.

Transportation

The hotel offers bikes and golf carts for residents to navigate the area, and there are even kayak and boat rides on offer in the canals and waterways. Chauffeur and car are also on request for guests who choose to stay in the residency suites.

Leisure

The resort boasts a world-class spa, golf course and MUUK fitness centre, and conferencing, business and wedding services. There are five swimming pools to choose from at the Mayakoba resort, and each of them has its own theme.

Just for kids

Babysitting services are offered, and a kids camp to keep your little ones entertained and happy during their stay and give mum and dad a night off.

Watersports

Watersports facilities are varied at this resort, and they have everything from paddle boarding and kite surfing to sailing and catamaran cruises.

El Puerto

For a more formal dining experience, the restaurant El Puerto offers a menu of Italian delights to satisfy the most sophisticated pallets. The extended outdoor seating area allows for alfresco dining and spectacular views of the mangroves and waterways. El Puerto also offers a large indoor seating area and two private dining rooms so guests can dine in perfect luxury. Little diners eat for free at El Puerto.

Ki Beach Bar

Ki is the Mayan word for friendship and the Korean word for yummy. Ki' is a vibrant beach bar by day with a fantastic rum selection and fresh fruit juice cocktails. It is an intimate Korean grill eating experience to be enjoyed with your feet in the sand at night. Kick back and take in the ocean breeze while sipping your favorite tropical-inspired cocktails.

This open kitchen concept restaurant is rooted in the Mexican tradition. The open-air dining and vibrant space make it an ideal place to get together with friends and family for a meal filled with laughter. They serve various cocktails, and it is an open and lively space to get together day or night.

Cafe Maya

Cafe Maya is a relaxed cafe that serves deli classics and delicious pastries and ice creams. It offers indoor and on terrace dining and is located opposite the kids club, so you can feed your little people some goodies when they come out from having all that fun.
"Want to savour the local delicacies in the comfort of your guestroom? The hotel's Refreshment Center Program allows you to stock your room's refreshment center with the treats you enjoy the most. Stop by for tasty items, including freshly baked baguettes, imported cheeses, wines, beverages, and much more. Guests can enjoy in-room or order for delivery.
Have a sweet tooth? Tempting selections of chocolates, cookies, desserts, and candy are also available for that late-night movie or TV show. And for the perfect cup of steaming brew, Café Maya offers a variety of gourmet coffees and teas, including our signature line "Teas at Fairmont." Events

The proximity to nature is one of the unique draws of the Fairmont Mayakoba. The mangroves and waterways offer beautiful outdoor settings for your meetings and events that put your people at one with nature. Whether it's a business meeting or a wedding, your guests will leave feeling relaxed, special and spoiled.

What's the best time to visit Fairmont Mayakoba ?

The best time to visit Mexico is during the dry season between December and April. The cooler months are December to February, although temperatures can still reach 82 degrees. That being said, there is never a wrong time to visit Mexico. We stayed in September, and the weather was hot, the drinks were cold, and the breathtaking resort was like stepping into another world.
