NYC is a hit with new hotel openings this year. Six Senses is jumping on the action, with the launch of what looks to be their most swanky urban resort yet. The new Six Senses New York will be housed in two unique, twisted-on-axes skyscrapers, located near the High Line, and looking out to Hudson River. The hotel will feature two restaurants, a private member’s club, and—our favorite—Six Senses Spa, reflecting the brand’s approach to wellness. Guestrooms and suites will be designed like contemporary penthouses, offering every modern convenience and luxury. Behind the design of the interiors is the celebrated Parisian firm Gilles & Boissier.

Rooms at this new hotel "Fifth Avenue Hotel" in New York’s NoMad district are split between two buildings. There are 129 of them in the soaring new 24-story skyscraper, but the real lure is the 24 suites inside the former Second National Bank Building, a McKim Mead & White original design, which the Gilded Age’s favorite architects completed in 1907. It’s underdone a painstaking reboot that should see it reborn in typically glamorous but understated style from Martin Brudnizki, who earned his reputation designing exclusive bars and restaurants like The Ivy in London.

Fairmont Century Plaza - Los Angeles, Usa
Dynamic design firm Yabu Pushelberg has reimagined architect Minoru Yamasaki’s mid-century masterpiece for a new era. The landmark Century Plaza Hotel will reopen as a Fairmont in the coming months, with a roster of 351 rooms and 49 suites, a new, guests-only rooftop pool with a bar on the 17th floor, and a spa that measures up at an impressive 14,000 square feet and will feature an aromatherapy spa room, a Himalayan salt room, and a hammam, among other facilities. James Beard Award-nominated chef Jason Franey will oversee the signature restaurant, Lumière, while Café Vignette will offer casual dining. The Bar at Century Plaza, meanwhile, is sure to become a Hollywood deal-making hotspot once again. Opening rates start at $699 per night.

On the fringes of the Santa Fe National Forest near the Sangre de Cristo foothills, this newly expanded hideaway will offer the best of both the town experience and the beauty of New Mexico’s natural surroundings. The historic homestead occupies 317 acres and offer activities including trout fishing in the onsite stream, horseback riding, walking and biking trails, and more. The 150-year-old chapel will also likely be a popular spot for weddings and other events. Guests will be treated to fine dining at the full-service restaurant, SkyFire, laidback eats at Two Dogs Café, and wellness services at the Turquesa Healing Arts Studio including a chakra rebalancing ritual featuring turquoise gem therapy. Opening : March 2021 Four Seasons Hotel - New Orleans, Louisiana
The Crescent City is getting its newest hotel soon in the form of a Four Seasons. The luxury property will take over the former 1967 World Trade Center office building right on the riverfront following a $530 million makeover. Its 33-story tower will contain 280 rooms, 61 suites, and 92 Four Seasons Private Residences. Among the amenities will be two restaurants including one by James Beard Award winner, chef Alon Shaya, a lobby bar, and an eight-room spa. Visitors can take in the views from a two-level observation deck, or simply laze by the fifth-floor outdoor pool. Opening room rates are not yet available.
The Tampa Edition - Tampa, Usa
Planned to open in winter 2021, The Tampa EDITION will become the fifth U.S. property from EDITION Hotels. Situated within the new 56-acre Water Street Tampa neighborhood, the hotel will be home to 172 guestrooms and suites and six F&B outlets, including a signature restaurant, rooftop bar and terrace. The property will also have a 2,200-square-foot Penthouse Suite of its own, an expansive spa, fitness center and nearly 6,000 square feet of flexible meeting and events space.

Chablé Hotels & Resorts, a boutique Mexican-owned luxury hotel company, will open its third property, Chablé Sea of Cortez, in 2021. Located outside of the superyacht destination of La Paz in Baja California, Mexico, the project will be a game-changer for the area which has traditionally been void of any luxury hotel development.
The Chablé Sea of Cortez will include stunning luxury villas and residences with dead- on ocean views. The property will also feature a huge spa, three dining venues, event space, private beach, and ocean-front pool; all spread across more than 698,700 square feet. This new property features 120 hotel rooms and 60 residences. The hotel will be part of the 1,850-acre master-planned luxury Quivira community on the Baja Coast. The community includes a private beach club, village center, nature reserves and over 20 miles of walking and biking trails. Delays may push the opening to late 2021, early 2022.

This is the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts’ debut in South America, and it looks like a very confident addition to our Openings list. The development is heralded by some big names in the world of architecture and design, with award-winning architect Jean Nouvel, designer Philippe Starck, and artist Vik Muniz commissioned to turn the 100-year-old building in the heart of the city’s Cidade Matarazzo into a luxurious city resort.
Set on the premises of a historic hospital constructed in 1904, Rosewood São Paulo will comprise 151 rooms and 114 suites and will feature two restaurants, bar and caviar lounge, two swimming pools, a large spa, and fitness center, as well as extensive gardens. Opening: 2021. The Riviera Maya Edition - Kanai, Mexico
The Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai—the brand’s first property in Mexico—is expected to open in winter 2021. With 180 guestrooms and suites, the hotel will be situated within the Kanai development, and home to six F&B outlets, including a signature restaurant, pool bar and beach club. There will also be a destination spa and a 2,200-sqaure-foot Penthouse Suite. Mandarin Oriental is rebranding and creating an extensive renovation of the iconic Hotel Palace Luzern which first opened in 1906 and is located in the heart of the city, on the shores of Lake Lucerne. The property will include 146 rooms and suites overlooking the lake and mountains.

The former Grand Hotel Cannes on the Promenade de la Croisette, will become a new Mondrian hotel. The hotel will feature 75 rooms, a restaurant and bar overlooking an expansive private garden, as well as a private beach. Mondrian Cannes features custom interiors designed by Monaco-based Christophe Poyet and Emil Humnert and world-class dining options; Argentinian concept-driven Leynia restaurant, EllaMia coffee shop, and Hyde Kitchen + Cocktails.

Maison Albar Hotel boutique-hotel brand has announced the takeover of the 4-star Boscolo Park hotel in Nice, as part of a 5-star hotel development project in collaboration with City Mall Group.
Located on Avenue de Verdun in Nice, the Boscolo Park hotel offers breathtaking views of the Baie des Anges and the Nice hinterland. As part of the large-scale project carried out jointly by City Mall Group and Maison Albar, a Paris Inn group brand, the establishment will be the subject of a vast program of renovation works, led by the Nice archetecture cabinet of Jean-Paul Gomis, and which will give birth to a 5-star hotel complex. In the former red-light district of Pigalle, Soho House Paris will open with 35 bedrooms, a gym, and a courtyard garden overlooked by a pool terrace.

It’s named after the 19-carat pink diamond which once was a centerpiece of the French crown jewels; this 63-room property sits two blocks from the Seine on the Rue des Archives in the heart of the Marais. It’s the first city center property from the French luxury hotel chainlet, Maisons Pariente, run by real estate mogul Patrick and his daughters Leslie and Kimberly and known for hotels like Crillon Le Brave in Provence.

The former Villa Eugenie, built by Napoleon III for his Spanish wife Eugenie de Montijo and transformed into a casino-hotel under the name of Palais Biarritz in 1881, is about to be discovered in its finery. While its last renovation was sixty years ago, gigantic work was undertaken by the American group Hyatt, the new owner of the premises, in order to refurbish the swimming pool, the restaurant and the terraces, and to dust off the 92 rooms and 50 suites, including that of L'Impératrice. Napoleon III furniture, rare paintings and tapestries will be restored for the occasion. When it reopens, the Hôtel du Palais, currently the only palace on the Atlantic coast, will join The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand, like the Martinez in Cannes or the Hôtel du Louvre in Paris.

This particularly spectacular project by Philippe Starck, allied to three entrepreneurs and financiers from the region, will perch the reproduction of a 19th century Metz villa at the top of a 14-storey building in Metz! Costa Navarino is located in Messinia in the southwest Peloponnese. Home to two 5-star deluxe hotels, The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort and The Westin Resort, Costa Navarino, Anazoe Spa, a 4,000m2. spa & thalassotherapy center, two signature golf courses, over 20 fine dining venues. The resorts are part of Costa Navarino’s development of three new areas for the destination: Navarino Hills, Navarino Bay and Navarino Waterfront.

Count Benedikt Bolza, the aristocratic owner of this 3,700-acre estate in the Umbrian hills, also happens to be an architect, so he personally supervised the makeover of the ramshackle pile (look for the castle that dates back to the 10th century) into an upscale compound that offers a quieter alternative to Tuscany’s country properties. This hotel was revamped under the auspices of the Anglo-Italian hotelier and his interior designer sister Olga Polizzi to recapture some of the glamour of its heyday, when it was originally built as an enormous private mansion in the Belle Epoque era by architect Ernesto Basile. Expect the vaulted and frescoed bar to be the hottest see-and-be-seen spot in the city, a refreshingly buzzy alternative to the Sicilian coast.

One&Only Resorts—the brand behind the One&Only Reethi Rah, and the new wildlife lodge One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, in Rwanda—this year is focusing on a very different location. The picturesque Boka Bay in Montenegro will be the group’s first European resort, on the western coast of the Balkans. Set on the edge of the Adriatic Sea between the towering mountains and inky sea, Portonovi will be a wellness retreat and a spa resort, designed with around 140 rooms, villas, and residences, with a yacht marina as well. Other than the picturesque coastline, the nearby riviera escape of Tivat and the medieval town of Kotor will offer plenty to explore.
One&Only’s foray into the old continent will not stop with the resort in Montenegro. We are looking forward also to the launch of One&Only Kéa Island in Greece, penciled in to open in 2021. Opening: 2021 No Mad - London, England
The fourth property from NoMad (after hotels in New York and Los Angeles) is also the company’s first foray outside of the United States. It will introduce its special blend of comfort and understated elegance to London, in the heart of Covent Garden. The hotel is taking over a listed building, previously The Bow Street Magistrates’ Court and Police Station—and its concept will weave in the history of the place as an integral part of its DNA. Reimagined as a hotel with space for private events, the building will also host a small museum with rotating exhibitions honoring the history of the Metropolitan Police Force. The 91 rooms and suites will also have much of the original architecture preserved and incorporated into the design, thanks to the New York-based interior design firm Roman & Williams.

After Six Senses effectively co-opted the luxury market here with its network of new lodges, it’s a ballsy move from safari specialist AndBeyond to attempt to siphon off some travelers to its new lodge in the Punakha Valley. The region is known for its rice paddies and chili farms; expect a plush, outdoorsy property with traditionally inspired architecture and the option to explore the area by raft, kayak, mountain bike or hiking by foot.

This hotel’s owners managed to lure André Kretschmann here to act as GM, defecting from his role overseeing hotel openings for LVMH. And it’s not surprising, given the impressive profile of this property, a 99-villa site on its own, half-mile-long coral island with a 490-foot long pool at its heart. The spa here is a standout, too: on a kidney-shaped islet, with each of the treatment rooms overlook the waters
Lxr Shozan Resort - Kyoto, Japan
When it opens in fall 2021, the ROKU KYOTO will be the first property in Asia under Hilton's luxury brand LXR Hotels & Resort. It will be operated by Tokyu Resorts & Stays Co., Ltd., a fully-owned subsidiary of Tokyu Land Corporation.
Opening : Autumn 2021 Ritz Carlton - Hokkaido, Japan
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC has announced that the Ritz-Carlton Reserve to be built at the center of Niseko Village will open up its doors in 2021. Niseko is located at the base of Mount Niseko-Annupuri, renowned as among the world’s best ski haven in Hokkaido, Japan.
Elang at Bawah Reserve - Indonesia
This private seaplane-accessible resort northeast of Singapore adds an additional standalone island early next year, with six new cliffside lodges—ideal for a family to buyout entirely. There’s a clubhouse for the 14 guests’ exclusive use, inspired by tribal communal houses in Indonesia, plus a saltwater infinity pool carved out from a natural hollow. Guests here can also access the amenities at Bawah’s main site nearby.
Opening : Q1 2021 Patina - Maldives
Patina is a new offshoot of the Capella hotel group, and its first site will be in the Fari Islands archipelago in the North Male Atoll, a 20-minute speedboat ride from the main airport of the Maldives. The 90-room resort aims to offer two experiences in one: If you want to be social, hang out at the marina village with a beach club and boutiques, or hole up in romantic seclusion in one of the villas.
Opening : Q2 2021 LUX* Phu Quoc Resort and Villas - Vietnam
LUX* Phu Quoc is set on Pearl Island’s north coast where forested mountains slope down to sugar-sand beaches and blue-green sea. Fusion Resort Quang Binh - Vietnam
The wellness-inspired resort and hotel chain Fusion has announced this week that it will bring a Fusion to the oceanside of Bao Ninh Beach, Dong Hoi, Quang Binh Province. Located at the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park with Son Doong – the world’s largest cave, the three-hectare resort will offer Fusion’s unique all-spa inclusive service plus a range of original, exciting, and wellbeing-oriented concepts and services.
Zannier Bai San Ho - Vietnam
Zannier Hotels—known for the very cool Cambodian Phum Baitang, and the Namibian newbies Omaanda and the tented camp Sonop—have chosen Vietnam as the destination for their newest opening.
Zannier Bai San Hô is set away from the mainstream tourist destinations. Located on a discrete peninsula, with a stunning coastal location and direct access to a kilometer-long beach, this luxurious resort will offer 71 villas, inspired by different architectural traditions of the region. Surrounded by lush hills and paddy fields, Bai San Hô will also feature three restaurants and two bars designed to instill different moods. There will be a variety of beach and water activities on offer as well, including scuba diving. Opening: 2021. The Tokyo Edition - Japan
Following the successful launch of the first Japanese EDITION hotel with The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon in late 2020, The Tokyo EDITION, Ginza will be situated just of Chuo Street, one of the largest upscale entertainment and shopping destinations in the city. The newly constructed property will have 78 guestrooms and suites, three food and beverage destinations including rooftop bar, together with a meeting studio and fitness center.
Opening: Fall 2021. Africa & Middle EastNobu Marrakech - Morocco
The Robert de Niro-owned hotel chain has commandeered the Pearl Marrakech and plans a major makeover to transform it into a 71-room property that will be its first in Africa. The site is convenient for the souks of the medina, but set a little apart in the center, in the Hivernage district; expect a luxury spa, rooftop bar and restaurant and indoor-outdoor swimming pools.
Opening: September 2021. The Tasman - Hobart, Tasmania
This Luxury Collection hotel is the latest addition to the increasingly tony hotel landscape in Australia’s island state, a short drive from the landmark MONA museum on the city’s outskirts. The 152-room hotel is at Hobart’s heart, on Parliament Square, and anchor a $150 million redevelopment of the formerly somewhat shabby CBD here.
Opening: Q1/2 2021. Kisawa Sanctuary, Benguerra Island - Mozambique
Located on the tropical island of Benguerra, in Mozambique, on a large patch of wild forest, and facing beach and dunes at Kisawa Sanctuary, this unique luxury resort aims to set new standards in sustainable design and innovation. Commissioned specifically for this project, patented 3D sand-printing technology is used for the construction of the resort, with sand and seawater mortar as the main building materials. The design will blend innovation with tradition in using local weaving, thatching, carpentry, and textile methods.
Kisawa Sanctuary will feature twelve bungalows (from one to three bedrooms), and one sprawling “Kisawa Residence”. Each beachfront with have a private swimming pool and a massage hut. The resort facilities will include dining venues, beach clubs, a large swimming pool, a library, and a spa. Opening : 2021. Kruger Shalati - South Africa
This is as special a hotel as they get. Permanently stationed on a bridge above the Sabie River in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, The Shalati is a vintage train, designed to recall the age of the classic luxury travel. It celebrates the long heritage of one of the oldest parks on the continent, and one of Africa’s largest game reserves—and reviving the first train journeys on the continent. The early visitors to the park would park overnight in the exact spot where Kruger Shalati is set to be positioned—high above the riverbanks, with views stretching along the length of the majestic river.
The hotel will have 31 glass-walled rooms (24 of them in the carriages and 7 in the Bridge House), as well as a deck with swimming pool, perched on the bridge, offering a swimming experience above the river populated by crocodiles and hippos, and visited by buffalos and elephants. Opening: first quarter of 2021. The Dubai Edition - Uae
The Dubai EDITION marks a significant expansion for the brand into the Middle East’s most popular travel destination. Situated in downtown Dubai, the hotel will be located opposite the Dubai Mall. Designed with LW Design Group LLC, the hotel will have 210 rooms and suites. The property will also be home to three food and beverage outlets, a pool, spa and fitness center, in addition to dynamic events spaces with multiple meeting rooms and a ballroom.
