Launched in 2012, the Gateway foundation aims to promote the conquest of space by imagining daring projects. Among these projects is the Californian company Orbital Assembly Corporation (OAC) which is in the process of developing Voyager Station: an impressive space hotel. A project that should see the light of day in 2025 if we are to believe the calendar unveiled by members of the organization in a live YouTube event held on February 1st.
Voyager Station: the first space hotel
Obviously, the 4-year deadline for carrying out such a titanic project is very ambitious and we are probably more here on a big communication blow to find investors than on the unveiling of a serious schedule. Either way, the Orbital Assembly Corporation’s project is not unrealistic or impractical and shows a first glimpse of the space tourism that awaits us in a few decades.
Voyager Station will therefore look like a large circle 488 meters in diameter. It will house restaurants, a cinema, a spa, a library, a concert hall, bars and a gym.
A total of 24 accommodation modules measuring 20 by 12 meters can be added to the structure to accommodate new arrivals, for a maximum of 450 people on board with 150 crew members. The station will feature a gravity similar to that of the Moon providing an unforgettable experience for space tourists.
Obviously even if we are talking about the future, we have to take the Voyager Station project in the conditional. Not that it will not see the light of day, but 2025 seems very optimistic, especially to bring together the investments necessary for its design, the cost of which is estimated between 55 and 65 billion dollars.
