The best luxury eco resorts
We all love travel, and we all love environment. It’s the natural beauties and environments that we usually travel to see! But travelling isn’t always a means to be eco-friendly, unless you find the right place to stay. Luckily enough, there are plenty such places in the world where you can enjoy all the pleasures of travel without the factors of environment corruption – these are eco resorts and hotels. But which are the best in the world, that can assure a balance between quality and environmentalism ? Discover our top 10 (+1).

The best luxury eco resorts

Soneva Kiri Eco Resort

Soneva Kiri, Thailand

Like many resorts, this Thai eco resort keeps track of its carbon footprint through a Carbon Calculator. This includes its consumption of energy and resources that have environmental significance in both their production and destruction processes. Soneva owns several resorts across the country, but Soneva Kiri resort is renowned to be amongst the most beautiful, and as well as the most economically friendly. If you’re looking for an environmentally friendly trip to Thailand, there’s no better place than this one with plenty to see and experience on its airport island.
Bambu Indah Bali eco resort

Bambu Indah, Bali

One of the more unique eco resorts on the list, being a place that promises the deepest sort of luxury and leisure, all whilst boasting an impressive display of bamboo houses and lodging, many of which are hand-carved and natural in appearance. It’s a place that shrugs off all forms of modernisation in favour of more traditional styles and materials for the foundations of its economically friendly structure. An expensive place to visit for sure, but highly sustainable and gorgeous in just about every way.
Hamanasi Adventure & Dive Resort, Belize

Hamanasi Adventure & Dive Resort, Belize

Named Belize’s Hotel of the Year in 2009, this is often still renowned as one of the best eco-friendly resorts in all of the world. This resort is all about sustainability and recycling, as well as keeping ten breathtaking acres of green woodlands as part of their resort territories. This resort composts its leftovers appropriately and collects rainwater for much of its cleaning purposes. What’s more, its natural surroundings and beauty make it a top, must-visit spot for eco-friendly tourists.
secret bay eco resort dominica

Secret Bay, Dominica

The Caribbean Island of Dominica hosts one of the best eco resorts in the world. Every villa in Secret Bay is made of sustainably harvested materials, such as hardwood and natural materials. Eco-friendly tactics are employed for measuring carbon footprints and the surrounding natural landscapes of this unmatched island are a large part of what makes this one of the ultimate eco resort experiences. This is an especially necessary place to visit if what you’re looking for is an eco-friendly beach experience, as the Tibay Bay Beach is only minutes away.
 Two Seasons Coron Island Resort

Two Seasons Coron Island Resort & Spa, Philippines

The most sustainable resort in all of the Municipality of Coron. This resort is the very definition of luxury, being a renowned 5-star hotel and all, but what sets it apart are its efforts of 100% zero waste production. Solar panels for power and water heating alongside a nearby desalination plant that provides fresh and usable water help to ensure that this resort remains entirely self-sustainable. There’s no better eco resort in all of the Philippines, that much you can be sure of.

Hacienda Tres Rios Resort, Mexico

Complete with an organic farm that spans 2,500 acres, and a 60% waste recycling rate, this is one of the top eco resorts in all of Mexico (if not the best!). Though it employs many methods of sustainability, it’s really the Tres Rios Nature Park that sets it apart from the crowd. Over 120 different plant species reside in this park, alongside many more species of animals. It’s a lovely, green place kept in healthy condition by the resort, and always good for a visit from tourists – just remember not to litter.

Kawilal Hotel, Guatemala

Much like the worlds of Tolkien, this eco resorts fancies itself a new-age Shire with its green grass roofs and focus on leisure. Not sure there’s a second breakfast here, though. There’s no air condition put to use here, as the fact that this hotel is built straight into a hillside means that there’s more than enough natural cooling going through in this typically hot and steamy country. It’s acquired some fame as well, being the first Central American hotel to get a LEED-NC Gold certification for eco friendliness!
Garonga Safari Camp, South Africa

Garonga Safari Camp, South Africa

30% of the power used in this South African resort is entirely solar. Whilst this may not seem like much, the heat pumps set in place help to reduce energy consumption even further, by an entire 80%. There’s extreme appeal in relaxing at an eco resort in Southern Africa of all places – one of the most beautiful locations in all the world. Made even better when you learn that all the waste produced by this eco resort is turned into natural gas, for cooking purposes. Hardly a thing wasted, in this sustainable resort.

Three Camel Lodge, Mongolia

This is one of the few resorts in the world to have entirely banned the use of plastic in all shapes and forms. Plastic pollution is one of the world’s primary gripes, hence already setting this resort ahead of many others. It’s a wonderful place to experience Mongolian culture whilst knowing that you enjoy a place built in an entirely eco friendly manner. The implemented solar power is also a huge dealmaker, for those seeking a proper eco resort to spend their time at!
svart eco resort

Svart, Norway

This is a unique option on the list as it has yet to open – it’s set for a grand opening in 2021, but already its managed to solidify itself a spot with its engaging environmental promises. Its facilities will make use of total solar energies, reducing the amount of energy consumption by an entire 85% in comparison to other hotels worldwide. It may even become an energy-positive hotel, and an uncalculatedly beautiful one with its proximity to the Svartisen glacier in the Arctic circle. Svart will be an amazing place to go !
Azulik tulum eco resort

Azulik, Mexico

Azulik Tulum is one of the most popular Mexican hotels on Instagram, it is undoubtedly one of the best hotels in tulum but above all it is a luxury eco resort to recharge your batteries and reconnect with yourself and nature. No phone, television or electricity, but an idyllic location between beach and jungle for an incomparable experience. Azulik Tulum is the ideal place for a magical stay between nature, luxury and nomadic spirit! Live like a nomad.
