When it comes to luxury places to stay in Paris, you’re undoubtedly spoiled for choice. One of the finest hotels at the heart of the city is the Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opera, a place where guests enjoy five-star opulence and impeccable service. If you’re planning a trip to France’s capital in the near future, here’s everything you need to know about one of the city’s finest hotels, with our take on whether or not it represents good value for money.
Hotel Scribe Paris - Sofitel
Where is the hotel located?
The location of the Sofitel Le Scribe hotel is a huge draw. Nestled at the beating heart of the right bank in Paris, the hotel is a literal stone’s throw from the Opera Garnier [hence its name], Place Vendome, and a plethora of boutique stores and fashion houses. Positioned in one of Paris’ most salubrious and elegant districts, visitors are welcome to enjoy the hustle and bustle of Parisian life that take place right out the front door of this majestic hotel.
What can guests expect from the hotel décor?
Every Sofitel hotel draws inspiration from the area in which it’s located, and Hotel Scribe is no exception. Intertwining classical French design with opulent and sleek modern furnishings, Hotel Scribe is palatial without being too over the top. We found the neutral interiors infused with flashes of bold colour to be the perfect backdrop for a relaxing and welcoming stay. The rooms within are tastefully finished as you would expect, and each offers a strikingly different yet refreshing take on modern French living and design. You certainly won’t be disappointed with Hotel Scribe’s décor; the attention to detail and individual touches make for a most memorable stay.
What are the rooms like at Hotel Scribe ?
As touched upon above, each of the rooms are individually designed and finished with a touch of neo-classical & modernist French flair. All rooms come with an LCD satellite TV, minibar and tea and coffee making facilities. We were particularly impressed, however, with the bathrooms and the complimentary Hermes toiletries – a delicate and much appreciated touch of class.
For the WOW factor, consider checking yourself into the Duplex Opera Suite. Its perhaps more apt to describe it as an apartment, set on two floors with magnificent views reaching out to the city below.
The spacious rotunda-shaped sitting room is bedecked with a faux fireplace and antique vases, while the bedroom is replete with a king-sized bed and comforting French throws. The suite at Hotel Scribe is most certainly fit for royalty.
What services are offered by the hotel?
For a city centre hotel, Hotel Scribe offers guest a number of amenities and services. Perhaps most appealing is the free access permitted to guests to the fully stocked fitness centre and the on-site hammam and hot tub. For those looking to treat themselves to something extra special, the hotel’s spa and treatment centre is open for guests to enjoy many wonderful treatments and massages. Guests are also able to stay connected throughout their stay, as free WIFI is offered in all rooms and within all communal areas. If you choose to drive to Le Scribe, you can benefit from a valet parking service, and your vehicle will be taken to a safe and secure nearby location. As we will introduce below, the hotel is served by a romantic on-site restaurant, Rivages, as well as a coffee bar and library which serves up freshly roasted brews and delightful, melt-in-the-mouth French pastries straight from the kitchen.
How is the food and drink?
Rivages is the hotel’s romantic on-site restaurant, and its menu is varied and extensive. We were impressed by the restaurant’s beautiful setting, and the dining experience we enjoyed under the glass roof. The extensive menu caters to various tastes and preferences with the tapas options - sea urchin taramasalata and the dry Auvergne sausage - deserving of particular mention.
Of course, being a Parisian restaurant, the wine cellar is fully stocked and includes a range of delicious grapes from all over the world, with a particular attention to those from the Mediterranean region. For light bites and snacks at any time of the day, you can head to the coffee shop and library, where you can enjoy delectable, freshly roasted coffee from Terre de Café, accompanied by
incredibly moreish gateaux and pastries. If you’re not impressed by the offerings from Le Café Scribe, there are a whole host of fine dining options available within a short walk of the hotel.
How to get there ?
Most international visitors arrive in Paris at Charles De Gaulle International Airport. You can arrange an airport shuttle directly to Opera Garnier, which is just 250 metres from the hotel entrance. Both Air France and Roissy airport shuttles operate routes here. Alternatively, you can arrive at Hotel Scribe via metro, by disembarking at Opera Metro Station and walking the remaining short distance to the hotel. If you’re driving, the hotel offers a valet parking service as already mentioned.
Is Sofitel Le Scribe Paris good value for money?
Paris is one of the most expensive cities in the world, so rates at exclusive hotels like Hotel Scribe are by no means cheap. At the time of writing, a queen room starts at US$430 per night, with the Opera Suite introduced above commanding US$1430 per night. The food served in the hotel restaurant is reasonable by Paris standards, with a main meal costing between US$30 - $50, depending on what you order.
Given its premium location, elegant décor, and quaint interior design, Hotel Scribe represents decent value for money in Paris. As one of the world’s most expensive cities, you should expect to pay a premium for accommodation throughout the city and even into the suburbs, so Le Scribe is a great option if you’re looking for the perfect Parisian location.
