Airport parkings : All you need to know

Airport parkings : all you need to know
It was not until the 1950s, well after the first airports were built, that the first secure and illuminated pay parking lots began to appear. With the development of air transport and the number of passengers, these parking lots evolved and became central!

Airport parkings : All you need to know

Today, there are six main types of airport parking lots, but there are also many digital solutions such as booking platforms and parking lot comparisons to find the one that suits you. Some of them like Parkos airport parking only show parking options that are available for the given date or if no date was given, parkings that are availabe the next 7 days.

Let's discover together the six types of parking lots you can find when you arrive :

Kiss nfly zone

The Kiss nfly are drop-off and pick-up zones in the immediate vicinity of the terminals. They are the closest to the terminals. Vehicles can be parked there for only 15 minutes. This is an ideal space if you need to drop someone off or if you want to take a cab, a private driver or a shuttle to a more distant parking area. In some airports you can also take public transport from the nfly kisses. Usually 15 minutes are free and then the rates are extremely high for each additional minute. This is the most expensive type of parking available at the airport and is not attractive for parking longer than 15 minutes.

Short-term parking

Short-term parking comes second in terms of proximity to the terminals. They are often called P0, P1 or P2 depending on the configuration of the site. They are located just outside the kiss n' fly. They offer the highest hourly parking rate just after the kiss n fly. These are parking lots that are generally popular with people who are only staying for a few hours. Parking spaces for "VIP" memberships are often found here.

Long-term parking

Long-term parking lots are located further away from the terminals and allow travelers to stay longer due to lower rates. However, it is necessary to take a shuttle bus to reach the terminal. Some parking lots offer services such as car washes and fueling. These parking lots are generally called P3, P4 and P5.

Economic long-term parking

These are the same as the long term parking lots but are usually located further away and offer even lower prices. However, not all airports have these parking lots. If the airport you are traveling to has one, it will probably be called P6. â€‹

Long-term off-site parking

Off-site long-term parking is available near major airports. They are not managed directly by the airports but by outside companies. Rates are often much lower. Although they offer shuttle services to the airports, these parking lots are relatively far away and not suitable for everyone.

Car rental parking lots

For travelers who did not arrive with their own car, there are also rental car lots where you can rent a vehicle to leave the airport. These parking lots are usually in the immediate vicinity of the terminals.

How can I plan and book a parking space?

Parking and technology have evolved considerably over the last 10 years with the possibility of subscribing to season tickets, loyalty programs, online reservations and the possibility of comparing different parking lots to help you reduce parking costs.

Thanks for helping me understand that we still need to use a shuttle to go from the parking to the airport when we are parking our car at a long-term parking space. I might have to do that when I go to my parents' place in September and stay there for a month. So I should probably look for the Washington Dulles airport shuttle and book them in advance to ensure that I will not wait for a long time when I have parked my vehicle.

It's great that you explained airport parking lots and how there are different options for your needs. My brother is traveling next week, and he wants to drive himself to the airport since his flight leaves before dawn, so I'll make sure he reads your article right away. Thanks for the insight on airport parking lots and how technology makes it easy to book your spot.

It's great to know that long-term parking spaces are farther from terminals and provide cheaper rates, allowing visitors to remain longer. My sister wants to travel abroad to work for two weeks. I'll advise her to make hourly reservations for airport parking for a two-week period.
