Frequently asked questions about Bali
When to go in Bali ?
Bali is located near the equator, in a tropical zone. The island has two equally divided seasons. The average year-round temperature is 28°C, but the heat is never unbearable. For a drier and sunnier climate, the best period is from May to October. To avoid the tourist influx, it is better to stay in Bali in May, September or October. Of course, you will not be alone. June is also a good month to go, because everything is green after the monsoon and prices are not yet at their peak. Note that the days have the same amplitude all year round, with a sunrise at 6am and a sunset at 6pm at the latest.
How do you greet someone in Indonesia ?
Shake hands and give a slight nod when meeting for the first time. After the first meeting, a handshake is not necessary; a slight bow or nod of the head is sufficient. Shake an Indonesian woman's hand only if she initiates the greeting. Greet people with "Selamat" (sell-a-mat), which means peace.
How to tip in Bali ?
The tipping culture in Bali isn’t mandatory (although some restaurants in the main tourist areas may have a service charge). So in general you can choose to tip, or not, and no-one will be chasing after you.
