The roof of Europe, the third most visited natural site in the world, continues to attract millions of visitors and thousands of mountaineers each year.

GEOGRAPHY Mont Blanc rises in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif and is the highest point in the Alps. It is also the highest peak in Western Europe, which has earned it the nickname of Roof of Europe. It is located between France and Italy, south of Chamonix and north-west of Courmayeur.
HISTORY 1786, August 8th: FIRST ASCENSION By Michel Gabriel Paccard and Jacques Balmat. Departure around 4am from a bivouac at the top of the Côte de la Montagne. At 18h23, Paccard and Balmat are observed reaching the top he abandons at 19h. Back to the bivouac in the morning before midnight. It is agreed that this ascent marks the birth of mountaineering.
